The MFL curriculum is taught to give the children at Riverside Primary an interest in learning other languages and find out about the culture in other countries also. We encourage children’s confidence and strive to stimulate and encourage curiosity about language. The skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are embedded as necessary so that the children can go on to use their language skills in a variety of contexts. At Riverside we use Primary Language Network scheme to support the teaching of French, enabling the children to learn in a progressive, multi-faceted and enjoyable way. French is taught once a week, building on prior learning and based around a range of topics, festivals and key events.

• To enable children, who have the opportunity, to travel abroad with enjoyment, confidence and interest.
• To give a sound start for further development at Key Stage 3 and beyond.
• To continually review and modify the curriculum in the light of current research.
