School Buddies

At Riverside Primary School, we have a team of committed School Buddies who support the children at break and lunchtimes in and around the school.

A school buddy is a pupil who is trained to support and take care of other pupils, often a younger or a new pupil at our school. Buddies can assist with various tasks, including helping new pupils with settling into school, providing companionship during playtime, and helping with social interactions. School Buddies also act as role models and can help resolve minor conflicts on the playground.

Buddies who are selected for the very important job undertake responsibilities / tasks on a 2-weekly rota. We have outdoor buddies who help children play cooperatively together and who supervise the outdoor OPAL play at lunchtime. We also have indoor buddy tasks which include helping in the dinner hall, serving out salad from the salad bar and handing out cups of water.

Those children who would like to become a Buddy have to complete an application, attend an interview with Miss Cameron and attend a full week of training, in order to become a qualified Buddy.
