Rationale
At Riverside Primary School we provide a high-quality history education, which helps our children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It inspires our children's curiosity to know more about the past. Moreover it prepares them to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps our children to understand the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. Learning about the past and the methods used to study sources and draw conclusions helps pupils understand and contribute to the world in which they live. The History Curriculum follows the new National Curriculum introduced in September 2014. A topic-based approach to curriculum planning is employed within the school. The teaching of History is organised through termly or half-termly topics.
